Haywire
Soderbergh has a stab at affected genre in this revisitation of Nikita without the bondage, or Bourne without the amnesia. You know the story, and once again the moral is… maybe don’t double cross your highly trained martial arts super assassin, ‘kay? There’s some impressive star-wrangling around the eventually likeable heroine, female MMA fighter Gina Carano, but Haywire struggles to stay aloft in the first half and Soderbergh gets carried away with playing DJ. It catches the wind thereafter though as we get on with the business of bone crunching retribution. |
