Star Trek Into Darkness
The rebooted Trek franchise is already feeling like a dog-gnawed sneaker. One of the few still-twinkling christmas lights in JJ Abrams’ otherwise overstretched and underbaked portfolio is boldly going nowhere at the second instalment. Benedict Cumberbatch makes an arresting and articulate villain for about 15 minutes but his lines run out by the middle of the story, and beyond a few fist fights he’s given almost nothing to do. Stand aside limey, we’ve got sharks to jump! If this is Abrams and Lindelof at warp speed today, it’s not looking good for Star Wars V11 tomorrow, which is to say perhaps they’ll pick that franchise up pretty much where George left off. |
